Since 1 July 2024, criminal cases are governed by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). Offences committed before that date continue under the IPC and CrPC. We work under both sets of laws.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between regular bail and anticipatory bail?

Regular bail is sought after a person has been arrested. Anticipatory bail is sought before arrest, when a person apprehends arrest in a non-bailable offence.

Can an FIR be cancelled?

The Delhi High Court can quash an FIR or criminal proceedings in suitable cases, for example where no offence is made out or where parties have settled certain disputes.

Which law applies to my case, IPC or BNS?

It depends on the date of the alleged offence. Offences before 1 July 2024 are tried under the IPC; later offences fall under the BNS.
